The National Library of Russia in St Petersburg, known as the State Public Saltykov-Shchedrin Library from 1932 to 1992 (i.e. in the Soviet era), is the oldest public library in Russia, being founded in 1795. It should not be confused with the Russian State Library, located in Moscow.
